Tournament News

The 2011 Bournemouth Open Bowls Tournament sponsored by Bowlaway took place from 7th to 13th August 2011. The Men’s Singles was won by Scott Edwards (from Hove and Kingsway Bowling Club in Sussex) with a 21-4 victory over Dorchester’s Wayne Garnett. Scott was presented with the Melborne Cup by the Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Chris Rochester and a cheque for £1500 was presented by Bowlaway’s Sara Uzzell.

In an all Welsh Mens Pairs final, father and son team John and Mark Thomas (from Gelli Park and Ystradfechan bowling clubs) lost 21-20 to Chris Blake and Chris Wright (from Barry Athletic Bowls Club).

Results of the other finals:

Ladies Singles: Marion Smedley (Rosedale) won 23-15 beating Aileen Perks (Chester Road)

Mens Triples: Holders Chris Daniels, Alan Geary and Michael Hutley (Boscombe Cliff) lost to Jersey team Derek Boswell, Cyril Renouf  and Alan Shaw (18-15).

Mixed Pairs: Sylvia Postill (Richmond Park) with Stephen Richardson won 19-15 beating Caroline Richardson  (Dalbeattie) and Gareth Burbridge (Worcester)

Ladies Pairs: Bridget Cresswell (Broadway) with Penny Cresswell (Poole Park) won 25-23 beating Virginia Smith (Sutton) and Linda Thorogood (Ember)

Ladies triples: Jennifer Asten, Louise Wood (Sutton) and Anne Coward (Cheam Ladies) won 21-11 beating Poole Park’s Kris Saunders, Bobby Saunders and Gill Rice
